Slot

Phasing

This slot just cut through the south-eastern terminal of ditch 012AD07219. Five sherds of late Roman pottery were recovered, although a whetstone and a single sherd of Anglian pottery give an Anglian date for the filling of the slot.

Discussion

A short, linear slot, filled with a medium sandy loam (Munsell 10YR 4/3). Slight daub, but no charcoal flecking was present. It may be connected with a number of similar slots Plan of the later slots  which apparently sub-divide the larger enclosure system.

The slot was cut into hillwash with a flat-based, shallow V-profile. It was deeper in the west, although both east and west terminals were very rectangular.
